Thursday, June 21 and Friday, June 22, Margaret Scott and Javier Cappella participated in the annual Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Silviculture Tour. The first day focused on yellow birch management including discussions about site preparation treatments, group openings, and a crop tree release study. The second day focused on discussions about pine management such as planting, tending/site prep/harvest treatments, prescribed burns, and accessing regeneration. It was great to learn what has and has not worked for other forest managers. Thank you to Nipissing Forest Resource Management for hosting the tour and to the rest of the forestry professionals who participated to improve sustainable forest management in the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence forest.
