A Forest Management Plan (FMP) has a number of key components. They are:
Development of the Long Term Management Direction: This component starts with the forest inventory and ultimately identifies the level of harvest by forest type (i.e. the 10-year allowable cut). This work is done with models that take into account a variety of forest growth and silvicultural assumptions as well as social, ecological and economic management objectives. This strategic direction projects how the forest will develop 100+ years into the future.
