U of T Students Visit the French-Severn Forest
On Friday, February 23, 2018, the University of Toronto Master of Forest Conservation class visited the French-Severn forest to learn about single tree selection, tree marking, and active harvesting. Tom Bryson, Senior Forest Technician, and Margaret Scott, Forester Intern, discussed the different silviculture systems, forest management planning, prescriptions, compliance, and audits with the students. The group had an opportunity to see trees marked for areas of concern and wildlife, the different quality wood products that come from the forest, as well as active felling and skidding. The afternoon in the field was part of a weekend field tour for the Master of Forest Conservation students put on by the Canadian Institute of Forestry.
